Maps for waters and dykes

The 'legger' consists of a collection of maps that show all of the surface waters, bridges and dykes in our area and who is responsible for maintaining them. It also shows how deep the waters are and how high the dykes should be.

The ‘legger’ shows who is responsible for the maintenance of a specific area. This could be the responsibility of the Public Regional Water Authority Amstel, Gooi and Vecht. On the other hand, it could be the responsibility of a different water authority, the province or a farmer with fields along the water.

The maps helps the water authority determine which dykes need to be strengthened and ditches need to be deepened. The ‘legger’ is compiled on the basis of, among others, information in the ‘Keur’ (water authority by-laws). The rules and regulations of the water authority regarding dykes and the water are drawn up in the ‘Waterschapsverordening’. We also use the ‘legger’ when issuing a permit.

Types of 'leggers'

There are 2 types of ‘leggers’: leggers for waters and leggers for dykes.

1. Legger for waters

The legger for waters shows:

  • the location of the most important waters in our service area, e.g. routes for larger vessels
  • the locations of bridges, sluices and other buildings in the vicinity of the water
  • who is responsible for the maintenance

2. Legger for dykes

The legger for dykes shows:

  • the location of dykes in the service area of the water authority
  • how high and deep each dyke should be
  • who is responsible for the maintenance
